1. General Questions
1.1 Does DynWebLink contain ads or does it install adware?

DynWebLink does not contain any ads and does not install adware. We plan to offer additional paid services in the future to fund the free service.

1.2 How much internet traffic is generated by DynWebLink?

With the default update frequency of 30 seconds, DynWebLink produces about 0.5 MB traffic per day.

1.3 Is there a shortcut to directly go to a destination from my weblinks?

No, but with auto login activated, every link is just two mouse clicks away.

1.4 I stopped and started the service, but the connect time did not change!

It is not the connect time of the service; it's the age of your IP address. This changes only if you get a new address from your provider. You need to drop your internet connection to see it changed.

1.5 How does DynWebLink restrict access to my Homelan?

It does not restrict access to your Homelan. DynWebLink restricts access to your current IP address, because the address is not public available, but only thru a password protected website. If someone gets your IP address from a different source, access is nevertheless possible.

Your system should always be configured securely (firewall, virus scanner ...) and up to date.

1.6 How does DynWebLink enable access to my Homelan?

It does not enable access to your Homelan. You need additional software (e.g. WWW-server, FTP-server ...), to access your files from the internet.

1.7 Do I need a new registration for a second computer?

No, for all computers in your LAN, that use the same internet connection (same ISP); you need just one DynWebLink registration.

Install the DynWebLink service on just one PC and configure all other clients to connect to that service (see answer 1.9).

1.8 May I mix the Windows and Java version?

Yes, you can mix the versions as you like. For example, your server may run the Java version of the service, while the other PCs in your LAN use the Windows client tool to show the messages and reconnection warning (see answer 1.9).

1.9 May I run the service part on my server, while the client tool is on another PC?

Yes, you may install the client program on every PC in your LAN, to see the status messages and reconnection warning everywhere.

You should install the service component only once. Otherwise your Computer may be temporarily shown as offline, if the first of the two services exits.

See the user manual on how the client program may connect to a service running on another machine (Windows manual, Java manual).

1.10 Which ports does it use and to which servers does it connect to?

The DynWebLink service is listening on port 52137 for client connections from the local Network. You can restrict the access with the 'ServicePortMask' setting, see the manual (Windows manual, Java manual).

The DynWebLink service connects to one of the master servers at dynweblinkmaster1.de (port 50000) or dynweblinkmaster2.de (port 50001) and then proceeds to its assigned worker server. The worker server may change on every reconnect; you should not restrict access to certain hosts. The workers use only ports above 50000.

2. Questions regarding the Java Version
2.1 Does it run with other Java Versions than 1.6?

It should run with any higher version, but it will definitely not run with a version lower than 1.6. The older runtime cannot even load the classes, because there were some new language features introduced with 1.6.

3. Questions regarding the Windows Version
3.1 I cannot stop the DynWebLink service!

You don't need to stop the service to disconnect from DynWebLink, just choose 'Disconnect' from the client tool or pause the service.

If you really want to exit the service, you need to quit all windows clients first. A windows client, running on the same machine, will restart the DynWebLink service automatically. Alternatively you could switch the service to deactivated in the control panel.

3.2 How can I remove the desktop icon?

The desktop link is created for all users, thus it needs to be removed from the all users desktop. Only a user with write access permission to the all users desktop may remove the icon.

3.3 When I come back to my computer it shows an IP information with a wrong connect time!

This is because windows preserves message bubbles until the user is available. Since these bubbles contain your connect time, they are out of date after a while.

3.4 Why do you install dotNet 2.0 and not dotNet 3.0?

dotNet 2.0 is a part of dotNet 3.0; it's not just the previous version. In fact the dotNet 3.0 installer installs dotNet 2.0 itself. Since DynWebLink does not require features from dotNet 3.0, we install 2.0 to have a smaller download size and quicker installation.

3.5 Do I need to have administrator privileges to run DynWebLink?

No, you just need to be an administrator to install it.

3.6 Why do I need to be an administrator to install DynWebLink?

The setup needs to install a service, which is not possible for a normal user. It also installs DynWebLink for all users on the machine, this requires an admin too.

3.7 I downloaded the installer for the most current version, but the file didn't change!

The installer/updater exe-files usually do not change with a version upgrade. The purpose of this program is to get the current MSI-package from DynWebLink and install it. We suggest that you load the small file for each update again, since it might be necessary in the future to change it too.
